The Company has zero tolerance to modern slavery and human trafficking and is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships implementing and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure slavery and human trafficking is not taking place anywhere in our supply chains. This statement relates to actions and activities during the period of 1st January 2017 til 1st January 2018.
As part of the motor industry, the organisation recognises that it has a responsibility to take a robust approach to slavery and human trafficking.
The organisation is absolutely committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in its corporate activities, and to ensuring that its supply chains are free from slavery and human trafficking.
The company is a franchised Mercedes-Benz dealer across the North-West and North Wales with dealerships at Warrington, Deeside, Doncaster, East Manchester, Liverpool, Stoke-on-Trent and Trafford Park.
As such we are governed and operate in accordance with Daimler Holdings UK LTD (Mercedes-Benz Cars LTD, Mercedes-Benz Trucks LTD, Mercedes-Benz Vans LTD, and Mercedes-Benz Parts Logistics LTD) written policies that strictly prohibit the use of slavery or human trafficking in its direct supply chain.
Its brochure entitled “Ethical Business – Our Shared Responsibility” communicates the ethical principles and associated expectations to the supply chain. The supplier code of conduct requires all suppliers to sign up to a sustainability clause which details all requirements around forced labour, slavery and human trafficking.
We operate a number of internal policies to ensure that we are conducting business in an ethical and transparent matter. These include:
- Anti-Slavery Policy. This policy sets our the organisations stance on modern slavery.
- Recruitment and Selection Policy. We operate a robust recruitment policy, including conducting eligibility to work in the UK checks for all employees to safeguard against human trafficking or individuals being forced to work against their will.
- Whistle Blowers Policy. We operate a whistleblowing policy so that all employees kow they can raise concerns about how colleagues are being treated, or practices within our business or supply chain, without the fear of repraisals.
- Ethics Policy. This Policy explains the manner in which we behave as an organisation and how we expect our employees and suppliers to act.
- Violence at Work Policy. This Policy ensures the fair treatment and dignity of men and women at work. It is intended to prevent all forms of violence whether or not such behaviour is unlawful.
As part of our initiative to identify and mitigate risk, where possible, we build long standing relationships with local suppliers and customers and make clear our expectations of business behavior and we expect these entities to have suitable anti-slavery and human trafficking policies and processes.
We conduct due diligence on all suppliers and require that they confirm to us that:
- They have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery within their business.
- They hold their own suppliers to account over modern slavery.
- They pay their employees at least the national minimum wage / national living wage (as appropriate).
With regards to national or international supply chains, our point of contact is Daimler Holdings UK LTD. When a supplier signs up to the sustainability clause, it receives official certification to this effect.
By this certification the suppliers Daimler Holdings UK LTD interact with and confirm they will adhere to the guidelines and expectations that Mercedes-Benz would expect, focusing on but not limited to “Child Labour Avoidance”, “Freely Chosen Employment”, and “Freedom of Association” in line with the Modern Slavery Act. This agreement is mandatory and Daimler Holdings UK LTD does not deal with suppliers who do not sign up to this clause.
There is a zero tolerance policy towards violations of the laws banning forced labour, slavery and human trafficking and have contractual agreements that permit the termination of suppliers for a single violation.
Our Disciplinary Procedures permit the termination of and Employees Contact of Employment should the employee be found to be involved in any breach of the law banning forced labour, slavery and human trafficking.
We will continue to update our Policies and Procedures as required to ensure we maintain appropriate safeguards against any mistreatment of persons involved in its supply chain or own business.
We conduct training for employees to emphasise the importance of acting with integrity in line with our Ethics Policy and the Company’s zero tolerance to modern slavery and human Trafficking.
We will know the effectiveness of the steps that we are taking to ensure that slavery and/or human trafficking is not taking place within our business or supply chain if no reports are received from employees, the public, or law enforcement agencies to indicate that modern slavery practices have been identified.
Status of Policy
The Company reserves the right to review and vary this Policy from time to time.
This statement has been approved by the organisation's board of directors, who will review and update it annually.
